Waiting to get on the plane
Grandpa and Jonathan at the airport
We made it safely to Korea yesterday. We landed early (around 4pm on Saturday) and all of our luggage came. We only had one small hiccup at the Chicago airport when they told us we had to buy a plane ticket for Jonathan. We were imagining a $1-2k bill, but luckily it was much cheaper than that.
He did pretty well on the flight only a couple minor meltdowns mostly due to him not sleeping more than an hour or two on the 15 hours flight.
I thought for sure I would start feeling more nervous as we got closer to Seoul, but instead I was just getting excited and was curious as to their reaction to us.
We went through customs smoothly and as we walked out of the main door I scanned the crowd to see if I recognized anyone. I saw a family standing with a sign that said "Jennifer" on it and immediately starting crying. There were many tears, hugs and smiles-it was a great moment and one I never thought would happen. My dad took pictures at the airport so I will update those during my next post.
It is about an hour ride from Incheon airport to Seoul. The drive from the airport to Seoul was right along the Han River so we saw many bridges, beautiful landscape and tons of cars! My middle sister was with us and checked us into our hotel. Then we all met for dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Luckily, I have a cousin (Joey) who was adopted to the Netherlands and speaks fluent English. She translated for us during dinner and will be with us again tonight. We mostly talked about our flight, Jonathan and what we want to do during our visit. Jonathan was exhausted so we left the restuarant and got back to our hotel room around 9pm.
We were up at 5am this morning. Today, we will be touring parts of Seoul and then going to my parents house for dinner with extended family.
Hope everyone is well and I will try and update more pictures soon.
